PUEBLO, COLO.—Just after crossing the finish line at the NCAA Indoor National the Adams State Men and Women Track & Field Team didn't take any breaks as they competed at the CSU Pueblo Early Bird meet this weekend. The Grizzlies had some impressive performances as they begin their outdoor season and look forward to hitting the qualifications marks early on to compete at the national meet at the end of May.
In the field events, participants who competed Friday evening were the men's Hammer Throw in which we had
Jordan Larson finishing sixth as he threw 46.93 meters. Finishing in seventh was
John Hochanadel with a final mark of 46.24 meters, followed by
George Galaviz finishing tenth with a throw of 42.79 meters, which is a new personal best.
John Hochanadel had an impressive finish in the men's shot put as he places sixth as he threw 14.74 meters, followed by James Hochanadel in ninth as he threw 13.77 meters.
The Grizzlies also had some peak performances in the men's discus throw, Sam Dirkes finished in second with a throw of 49.10 meters, followed by
John Hochanadel in sixth (43.59 meters),
Jordan Larson in eighth (42.89 meters), and James Hochanadel in ninth (41.06 meters).
In the men's long jump
Camwrin Harris finished in seventh jumping 6.73 meters, while in the men's triple jump
Jordan Spencer finished third as he jumped 14.30 meters.
In the women's long jump there was an impressive performance by
Caelyn Gomez as she placed fourth with as she jumped 5.20 meters, followed by
Claire Carlson in tenth with as she jumped 4.77 meters.
On the distance side, there were some high-quality performances to start the season. In the men's 5,000 meters
Devin Paredes finished in second with a time of 15:00.03, followed by
Justin Andrade in fifth with a final time of 15:10.01. In the men's 1500-meter Miguel Coca ran a remarkable race as he finished in first posting a time of 3:50.94. After being the top finisher in the men's 1500-meter Coca steps back on the line and places third in the men's 800-meter run with a final time of 1:56.41, followed by Sam Kepford finishing seventh with a final time of 1:58.5.
There were some top performances in women's 1500-meter run as Emma Wren representing the Grizzlies for the first time finished in third with a time of 4:37.59, followed by
Nicole Lawrence in fourth posting a time of 4:38.90. Also competing in this event were
Morgan Hykes (4:48.55) and
Haleigh Hunter-Galvan (4:50.72). On the woman's side, Lawrence debuts in her second race as she is the only Grizzlies to compete in the 800-meter finishing in third with a time of 2:13.45.
Debuting her first time competing in the 300-meter steeplechase
Paige Morales finishes fourth with a time of 13:28.72.
On the sprints side, we had four Grizzlies competing in the men's 100-meter hurdles, in which Leroy Elliott finished in third with a time of 15.08, followed by
Jordan Spencer in fourth as he posted a time of 15.11. Also competing in this event were
David Varner (16.02) and
Neveh Jones (19.08).
In the men's 400- meter
Eric Williams finished in eighth place with a time of 50.81, followed by
Keilin Jones (51.61) who also competed.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles Jones finished in third with a time of 54.94, followed by Spencer in fifth with a final time of 56.68.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles Kaitlyn Kelly runs a personal best posting a time of 1:16.28 as she finishes in 10th place.
In the men's 200-meter Williams competed posting a time of 22.70, followed by Varner (22.83),
Rashad Murphy (23.08), and
Kuba Bartnik (23.37).
In the women's 200-meter Sartain ran a time of 26.48, followed by Gomez (27.07) who competed as well.
The lone Grizzly that competed in the women's 400-meter was
Jessica Simon as she finished in ninth with a time of 59.68. The Grizzlies who competed in the women's 100-meter dash were
Alese Sartain as she posted a time of 12.73 and
Caelyn Gomez with a final time of 13.00.
The Grizzlies will spike up again next week as they will be back at Colorado State University Pueblo as they look forwards to continuing the beginning portion of their 2021 Outdoor Track & Field season.
