PUEBLO, Colo.—The Adams State Men's and Women's Track & Field teams spiked up at the CSU Pueblo Spanking Blasting Invite. The Grizzlies had some peak performances including sweeping the 1,500-meter races, at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
Senior
Eilish Flanagan had the top performance as she won the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:23.22, six seconds faster than the second-place finisher. The altitude converted time of 4:17.88 makes her the top, and only automatic, qualifier in the NCAA Division II performance lists.
Nicole Lawrence, who finished fifth, is currently eighth on the performance list.
The Grizzlies also had some outstanding performance in the men's 1500 meters.
Ahmed Sado shifted gears as he kicked to the finish to take the win as he posted a time of 3:53.28. Also finishing in the top ten was Jett-Reynolds Davonte finishing fifth with a time of 3:55.80. James Dune finished seventh with a time of 3:57.82, followed by
Alec Hall in ninth posting a final time of 3:57.98.
Senior Sarah Wills won the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase as she finished in a time of 11:53.70.
On Friday afternoon, there were two Grizzlies who competed in the men's hammer throw.
Jordan Larson finished in 1place with a throw of 48.83 meters, followed by John Hochandel who also competed in the even and threw 43.47 meters.
Sam Dirkes competed in the men's shot put as he finished in sixth with a 16.08-meter throw. Dirkes also competed in the men's discus throw as he finished fourth throwing 51.57 meters.
Kicking off the meet on Saturday morning was the men's 5,000 meters, in which the lone Grizzly
Josh Kutcher took it to the line and ran an impressive race setting a new personal best as he posted a time of 15:57.47.
In the men's 800 meters
David Cardenas had a strong finish as he placed third with a time of 1:51.35, followed by
Alec Hall in sixth (1:54.42), and
Andrew O'Keefe in ninth (1:54.49).
On the women's side, there were multiple Grizzlies who stepped it up and ran spectacular races.
Eilish Flanagan lead wire to wire as she placed first place with a time of 4:23.42, followed by
Nicole Lawrence who placed fifth and ran a new personal best 4:34.83 as both these ladies run the provisional time for nationals. Stepping down in distance
Brianna Robles competed as well as she ran a new personal best 4:40.09.
In the woman's 800 meters the lone Grizzly Emma Wren finished in fifth as she posted a final time of 2:14.03.
The Grizzlies had four women debut in the woman's 3000-meter steeplechase. Sarah Wills ran for the first time in this event and lead from the gun as she posted a time of 11:53.70, followed by
Erin Stonebarger finishing fourth with a time of 12:12.57.
Reina Paredes competed in this event for the first time as well as she finished in sixth with a time of 12:36.86, while
Paige Morales ran a personal best as ran a time of 12:37.33 finishing in seventh.
On the sprints side, Leroy Elliot finished seventh in the men's 110-meter hurdles as he posted a time of 14.70, followed by
Jordan Spencer finishing ninth with a time of 14.96. In the woman's 400-meter dash the lone Grizzly
Jessica Simon finished eighth as she posted a time of 1:00.11. In the men's 4x400-meter relay
Jordan Spencer,
Eric Williams,
David Cardenas, and
Jonah Vigil lead the team to place third as they posted a final time of 3:19.36.
In the woman's 200-meter dash the freshman phenom
Alese Sartain posted a time of 26.18. Competing in the women's 4x400 relay was a team combined of sprinters and distance runners who came on top and finished in fifth. The team consisted of
Jessica Simon,
Alese Sartain,
Caelyn Gomez, and Kaitlyn Kelly as they posted a time of 4.19.77.
The Grizzlies will be back on the track on April 10th as they travel to Grand Junction to compete at the Colorado Mesa meet.
