ALAMOSA, Colo. —The Adams State Men and Women's Track & Field team continue to amplify their speed as there was multiple top-performances this weekend as they competed in day two of the Maverick Multi Open and at the Masked Raider Open.
Maverick Multi Open
In the field events there was three Grizzlies who competed in the men's hammer throw.
Jordan Larson was the top performer for the Grizzlies in this event as he finished in sixth with a final throw measured out at 45.40 meters.
John Hochanadel finished in eighth with a throw of 42.99-meters, followed by
George Galaviz as he placed ninth with a final throw of 42.16 meters.
There were exceptional performances in the men's 1500-meters as the Grizzlies placed first through fourth place, while each individual also hit the national provisional time.
Carson Bix took first with a final time of 3:49.10.
Davonte Jett-Reynolds took second as he posted a final time of 3:50.04, followed by
David Cardenas in third (3:50.22) and
Alec Hall in fourth (3:50.46). In the women's 1500-meter multiple Grizzlies had stellar performances as they placed in the top ten.
Nicole Lawrence was the top performer for the Grizzlies in this event as she finished in third place with a time of 4:32.53, followed by Emma Wern in fifth with a final time of 4:35.80.
Morgan Hykes finished in sixth with a time of 4:40.46, followed by Sarah Wills who stepped down in distance, and finished in ninth with a time of 4:42.25.
In the women's 400-meters, the lone Grizzly
Jessica Simon placed sixth as she ran a time of 59.18. Kellin Jones competed in the men's section of the 400-meters and he finished in fourth running a new personal best as he posted a final time of 49.87. Lawrence came back and competed in the women's 800-meter after running an impressive mile. Lawrence placed second with a time of 2:14.18, followed by Hykes who finished fifth with a time of 2:19.36. In the men's portion of the 800-meters Bix placed second with a time of 1:54.15, followed by Hall who finished third posting a final time of 1:54.29.
On the sprints side
Alese Sartain finished in eighth place in the women's 100-meters, as she posted a time of 12.63, followed by
Caelyn Gomez who placed ninth with a final time of 12.74. Sartain doubled up in events as she also competed in the women's 200-meters placing sixth with a final time of 25.69.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles
Kaitlyn Kelley ran an impressive race as she finished in seventh running a new personal best with a final time of 1:10.11. In the women's 3000-meter steeple the lone Grizzly
Reina Paredes finished in fifth as she posted a final time of 12:05.69. In the men's 3000-meter steeple chase Clement Duigou made it look effortlessly as he finished in first with a final time of 9:44.37.
To finish off a long and successful day the Grizzlies competed in the women's 4x400 meter relay as they placed fourth with a team consisting of Simon, Gomez, Sartain, and Kelley as they posted a final time of 4:14.66. The men competed in the 4x400 meter relay as well as they finished in third with a team that consisted of
David Cardenas,
Andrew O'Keefe,
Davonte Jett-Reynolds, and Sam Kepford, posting a final time of 3:22.31.
Masked Raider Open
Not only are they defeating the Texas heat but the Grizzlies went up against some stiff competition and still came up on top.
Camwrin Harris finished sixth in the men's long jump as he jumped 6.59-meters.
Jordan Spencer finished in fifth in the men's triple jump as he jumped a final mark of 13.98-meters.
In the men's 110-meter hurdles nothing seems to get in the way of the Grizzlies, as Leroy Elliot finished in fifth with a time of 14.88, followed by
Jordan Spencer in sixth with a time of 15.53.
David Varner finished in ninth with a time of 15.88, followed by
Neveh Jones posting a final time of 16.17, as they competed in this event as well. Jones doubled up and came up on top as he competed in the men's 400-meter hurdles and placed seventh with a time of 55.11.
Jonah Vigil ran a vigorous race as he posted a final time of 47.74 in the men's 400-meters, followed by
Godfrey Chama posting a time of 49.95, and
Eric Williams posting a final time of 50.28 as they also competed in this event. Elliot spiked up and competed in the men's 100-meter run as well as he posted a time of 11.31.
Vigil came back and raced in the men's 200-meters and placed fifth as he set a new personal best of 21.12 hitting the national provisional time. Williams also competed in this event as he posted a time of 22.53, followed by Spencer (22.88), and Varner (23.18).
The Grizzlies ended their night in Texas placing ninth in the men's 4x400 meters with a team that consisted of Williams, Chama, Spencer, and Jones as they posted a final time of 3:22.82.
The Grizzlies are counting down the days until nationals as they continue to chase after qualifying marks. The Grizzlies will be traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico where half the team will be competing and the other half will head to Hillsdale, Michigan on April 22
nd to compete as well.
