GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Adams State Men and Women's Track and Field team looks forward to building up the rest of their season as the Grizzlies competed on Day One of the Maverick Multi Open.
In the field events, there was an outstanding performance by Sam Dirkes as the Grizzly took first in the men's discuss reaching a mark of 49.44-meters, which is close to the national provisional mark.
Jordan Larson took fourth overall with a 44.78-meter mark, followed by James Hochanadel in eighth with a 43.06-meter mark, and
George Galaviz who also competed in this event placed 12th with a final throw of 39.54-meters.
On the distance side, two Grizzlies competed in the men's 5,000-meter. Mitchell Dervin finished 13th with a time of 15:32.01, followed by
Josh Kutcher who finished 18th with a time of 16:26.84. In the women's 5,000-meter run Sarah Wills finished in third with a time of 18:05.15, followed by Amalia Dorian who competed in this event for the first time, finished eighth with a final time of 18:53.83.
In the men's 10,000-meters the Grizzlies had a clean sweep, as they ran in a pack since the gun.
Devin Paredes placed first running a national provisional time of 30:39.51, followed by
Yonas Haile in second as he posted a time of 30:34.31, and Aron Orar in third as he ran a final time 30:36:14, as they both hit the provisional standard as well.
The Grizzlies are off to a good start and will be spiking up again tomorrow as they continue with day 2 of the Maverick Multi open, while part of the sprints team competes in Lubbock, Texas at the Masked Rider Open.
