HAYS, Kan.—The Adams State University participated in two matches at the 2021 Tiger Classic inside Gross Memorial Coliseum on Friday. The Grizzlies won their first match in straight sets over Emporia State University before winning the second match in straight sets. With the wins, the Grizzlies have a four-game winning streak their longest winning streak since winning four straight from Oct. 4-Oct. 12 2019. During that same stretch the Grizzlies won eight straight sets, the Grizzlies have now won ten straight sets.
Adams State 3, Emporia State 0 (25-20, 25-22 and 25-20)
The Grizzlies were able to tie the series record with the Hornets as both teams have four wins to their name, as they got the win in three straight, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-20. The match was the second straight sweep for the Grizzlies as they won seven straight sets.
In the first set of the match, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks in part to back-to-back kills by
Chasey Blach and Alexandria MacAskill. The two teams then traded points as the Hornets pulled within one point multiple times. The Grizzlies were able to string together enough three and four-point runs to get the win.
The second set saw the Hornets capitalize on two attack errors by the Grizzlies to take a 5-2 lead before a 4-0 run by the Grizzlies included a kill from
Madeleine Benally and
Sai Collins gave the Grizzlies a 6-5 advantage. Adams State finished the set with 17 kills and the 25-22 win.
The third set saw Adams State hit .265 to ESU's .103 attack percentage for the win.
Riley Rabedeaux and Collins finished the set with double digit kills with 12 and 10, respectively.
Adams State 3, Cameron 0 (25-20, 25-22 and 25-21)
The first set saw Adams State get some timely hits as they took a 6-2 lead early. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the Aggies came rallying back and took two leads including a 15-13 lead. The Grizzlies were able to close out the match with the 25-20 win. In the set, Adams State had seven kills by five different players and three aces.
The second set saw the Aggies score quickly and early as they took a 9-5 lead forcing head coach
Lindy Mortensen to take a timeout.
The Grizzlies came out of the timeout with a 5-2 run to cut the lead back down to one, 11-10, forcing Cameron to take a timeout. The Grizzlies came retaliated and took a three-point lead at 20-17. Another timely timeout allowed the Aggies to crawl back and tied the match at 21 and 22 before Adams State closed out the match at 25-22 behind 11 kills.
Adams State had nine kills early and took a 14-10 lead before a timeout by Cameron. The Grizzlies appeared to be unfazed as they finished the set with 16 kills and got their tenth straight win.
MacAskill was the leading attacker for the Grizzlies as she had nine kills in the game.

The Grizzlies will conclude the weekend with their final two non-conference games on Saturday when they take on No. 16 Southwest Minnesota State University at 1:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. MT) and the host Fort Hays State University at 5:00 p.m. (4:00 MT).
