LAS VEGAS, N.M.—Behind a 39.2 percent shooting performance by the Grizzlies, 11 Adams State women's basketball players were able to score in Saturday night's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over New Mexico Highlands 64-51.
Kayla Harris paced the Grizzlies as she fell one rebound short of a double-double with a 14-point, nine-rebound performance.
Riahana Davis scored ten points while Kaitlin Bell had nine and
Laura Gutierrez had eight. As a team, The Grizzlies shot 20-of-51 from the field. Jordyn Lewis paced the Cowgirls with 21 points as she hit six three-pointers in the game.
Adams State trailed 2-0 early but rallied with a 10-1 run to take a 10-3 lead. They then kept the pressure on and led 21-10 at the end of the period.
The Cowgirls outscored the Grizzlies 19-16 in the second and pulled within three points before Adams State closed out the half with a 5-0 run to take a 37-29 lead into the break.
The Grizzlies kept their pressure up before finally pulling away in the second half for the win.
Adams State improves to 5-8 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Grizzlies have won five games for the first time in a season since the 2017-18 season. The Last time the Grizzlies won more than five games in a season was back in 2012-13 when the Grizzlies won nine games.
Adams State will get two days to regroup before hosting Colorado Christian on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. inside Plachy Hall. They will then play MSU Denver on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
