ALAMOSA, Colo.—Thanks in part to a 7-of-7 showing from beyond the arch and field for senior
Stephanie Ruiz, the Grizzlies downed the Colorado Christian Cougars on Tuesday night inside Plachy Hall, 77-51. Ruiz set a new career-high in three-pointers made while 15-of-16 Grizzlies who got in the game scored.
The Grizzlies saw Ruiz, who hadn't scored in the previous two games, open the game with a sharpshooting shot from beyond the arch as she had three treys to lead the scoring in the first half with nine points, while
Kayla Harris had seven points.
In the first half, Adams State shot 40.5 percent from the field (15-of-37) and 43.8 percent from beyond the arch (7-of-16). They scored 29 points in the second quarter to push their halftime lead to 24 points, 41-27.
CCU rallied back as they outscored ASU 23-18 in the third quarter before ASU took over and grew the lead by outscoring the Cougars 18-11 in the fourth quarter.
Ruiz led all scorers in the game as she scored 21 points and was the only Grizzly in double figures.
Angelline Nageak had a career-high eight assists in the game and game high four steals.
The Grizzlies, now 6-8 in the season, have won six games, the most in a season since going 9-18 in the 2013-14 season. In the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Grizzlies have a 4-5 record, tying their season-high in the last two season. They will return to action on Wednesday when they take on MSU Denver in a game at 5:30 p.m.
