MBB | Grizzlies push #12 Regis, fall in overtime

ALAMOSA, Colo. — The Grizzlies hosted the 12th-ranked Regis University and the crowd was ready for an upset.

From the tip-off the fans could tell this was going to be a close one. Both the Grizzlies and the Rangers came ready to play. The score went back and forth throughout the first 8 minutes. This carried on the whole first half as the score at halftime was 43-40, with the Grizzlies up.

The second half started and the Rangers came out as if they had something to prove. With four minutes into the second half, the Rangers went on a 9-0 run. To get back in it, Jordan Notch hit a free throw, Nykolas Lange hit a three, and Tyrin Hollis hit a three as well. This made the score back to being close as the score was 57-54, with the Rangers up. Soon after at 12:18, Notch got called for a technical foul. After the foul, Adams State went onto an 8-0 run to regain the lead, making the score 67-66.

The game went back and forth and with 4 minutes left in the game, Rylan O'Brien hit his two free throws, tying the score at 74. Going into the final minute, the Grizzlies were up 80-78, as Hollis was at the free throw line. He made his free throws so with 53.2 seconds left in the game, the score was 82-78. The Rangers scored, then quickly fouled O'Brien. Making both of them, with 16 seconds left, the score was 85-80. However, Brian Dawson hit a three with 4 seconds left that would tie the game, which would ultimately make the game go into overtime. 

Overtime started at the Grizzlies and the Rangers exchanged baskets. During the entire overtime neither teams could pull ahead by more than 4. With 6.8 seconds left, the Grizzlies had the ball and were down 3. The final buzzer ran and the Rangers were victorious with a final score of 95:93. 

Up next, the Grizzlies host Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, January 29th. The next weekend, the Grizzlies are on the road as they play Black Hills State and Chadron.
