DENVER – Riding high after a two-match win streak, Adams State had the tables turned as host and No. 16 Regis kept its perfect record in RMAC play intact after taking a 25-14, 22-25, 25-12 sweep over the Grizzlies.
Cindy Garcia and
Riley Rabedeaux shared team-high honors with eight kills apiece, but ASU mustered just a .072 hitting percentage in the loss, falling to 6-12 overall and 3-7 in league play.
Regis, meanwhile, improved to 12-5 overall and stayed perfect at 9-0 in the RMAC.
The Grizzlies took a 3-0 lead in the opening set before the Rangers used a 13-3 run to take control of the frame.
Regis' lead reached double-digits at 19-9 en route to the 11-point set-one win.
The hosts used that momentum to race to an 8-1 lead in set two, only to see ASU roar back behind Garcia and
Anna Huggins kills, and a service ace by
Aileen Bugas to bring the Grizzlies to within 15-13.
Down 17-13, another Huggins hammer and three Ranger errors knotted the set at 17-17, setting up a competitive finish.
With Regis up 23-20, the teams traded the final four points as the hosts took a two-sets-to-none lead.
The Rangers continued their offensive assault after intermission, increasing an early 6-2 lead into a 19-7 runaway. After a Regis error gave ASU a glimmer of hope, the hosts went on a 6-4 run to close the set and sweep the Grizzlies in three.
A usual staple in the Grizzlies attack, ASU tallied just two service aces compared to nine for Regis.
The Grizzlies will look to begin a new win streak next Friday, traveling to Metropolitan State University of Denver for a 7 pm first serve.
