DENVER – Adams State's
Riley Rabedeaux led all hitters with 12 kills, but host Metropolitan State of Denver hit .372 while holding the Grizzlies to a .041 hitting percentage en route to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 sweep, handing ASU its second-consecutive setback.
The Grizzlies drop to 6-13, 3-8 in RMAC action, while MSUD improves to 18-1 overall, and remains perfect in league play at 11-0.
Sierra Leone Sanchez's serve staked ASU to a 3-0 lead to open the match, but the Roadrunners went on a 12-4 run to take control of the frame at 12-7.
Two errors from MSUD gave the Grizzles an opening to bring them to within 13-9, before MSUD used a 9-3 run to put the set away in winning by 10.
The Runners kept their momentum going in set two while taking a 7-4 lead, doubling their lead on the Grizzlies at 12-6.
A
Kendal O'gilvie smash and Rabedeaux hammer bookended a Runner kill to make it 13-8, until a MSUD kill and ASU attack error pushed the host's lead to 18-10.
The Grizzlies remained within eight points until the hosts pulled away in the eventual 25-14 decision.
Adams State kept set three close behind kills from
Cindy Garcia and Rabedeaux, taking an 8-7 lead over the 2
nd-ranked team in the nation behind three-straight
Natalie Gallegos kills.
After MSUD caught the Grizzlies at 8-8, the two teams split the next six points before the Roadrunners used a 3-0 spurt to inch ahead, 11-8.
After another Rabedeaux putaway brought ASU to within 16-14, MSUD would score the match's final nine points to win the set, and take the match, 3-0.
Galleos added seven kills and
Anna Huggins five, while Rabedeaux saved eight balls to lead the Grizzlies.
ASU travels to Colorado Christian tomorrow night, looking to back into the win column. First serve is set for 5 pm.
