LOREDO, Texas – A small run in the third quarter saw the Texas A&M International Dustdevils build a lead that was just big enough to overcome before they handed the Adams State University Grizzlies their first loss of the season, 67-54, on Tuesday night.
In the game that saw the Grizzlies lead in the first one time and being in a tie game five times, the Grizzlies were called for 30 personal fouls that led to 26 points from the free throw line as they went 31-of-45 (68.9 percent).
The Dustdevils took a 14-12 lead after the first quarter despite going 0-for-3 from beyond the arch.
The second quarter saw the Grizzlies score 11 points while surrendering 16 to trail 30-23 at the break.
The third quarter saw Adams State cut into the lead as they outscored TAMIU 15-10 and made the score 40-38.
Early foul trouble hindered the Grizzlies in the fourth quarter as they were called for 11 which allowed the Dustdevils to toe the line 19 times in the quarter in which they hit on 14 of them.
The Grizzlies hit 20-of-64 (31.3 percent) from the field in the game. They were led in scoring by Harmonie Dominguez, who scored 18 points.
The Grizzlies return to action on Wednesday when they take on Texas A&M University – Kingsville at 3:00 p.m.
