ALAMOSA, Colo. -- Adams State University's men's basketball team wound up with a split in its Thanksgiving Classic this weekend.
The Savage Storm built an 11-point halftime lead and beat the Grizzlies 86-77 in Plachy Hall Nov. 26.
Adams State slipped to 2-4 this season. SE Oklahoma improved to 2-2.
Kyle Leslie led SE Oklahoma with 22 points, including four baskets from 3-point range. Jeff Sternberger added 19, including all six of his free throws. Lamont Sanders topped the Grizzlies' scorecard with 21 points, including four from long range. Isaiah Sampson added 15 and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Savage Storm made 49 percent of its field goals and missed just once in 15 tries from the free-throw line. ASU made 43 percent of its shots from the floor and converted 11 of its 13 free-throw attempts. There were seven lead changes and two ties. The Savage Storm forced 22 ASU turnovers and scored twice as many points off those mistakes as did the Grizzlies.
ASU returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, against Fort Lewis inside Plachy Hall.
