ALAMOSA -- Fort Lewis, ranked 19th in the most recent NCAA Division II men's basketball poll, scored 50 points in the second half and beat Adams State 89-81 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both programs in Plachy Hall Dec. 1.
The two teams split 78 points in the first half. The Skyhawks made almost 58 percent of their field-goal attempts in the second half to pull away from the Grizzlies. FLC improved to 5-2l, while Adams State slipped to 2-5.
Akuel Kot led the Skyhawks with 34 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Junior Garbrah added 18, and Brenden Boatwright tossed in 14. The Grizzlies' top scorer was 
Kolby Walker, who finished with 18 points. 
Maison Adeleye added 14, and 
Lamont Sanders contributed 13 points, and he pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Western State pays a visit to Plachy Hall for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday, Dec. 2.
