MBB | Late free throws lift Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo. -- Kolby Walker converted two free throws with a bit more than a minute to play to give Adams State a 73-71 win over Western Colorado at Plachy Hall Dec. 2.

ASU is 3-5 overall, 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Western State falls to 2-3 overall, 0-1 in the RMAC.

A layup by Western's Daric Conkright and a subsequent layin from Robel Desta, who led the Mountaineers with 25 points, pulled the Mountaineers into a 71-all tie with 1:18 to play. Walker converted the two free throws to give the Grizzlies the lead for good. WSC had two chances to win it in the last seven seconds, but both 3-point tries came up short.

Maison Adeleye led the Grizzlies with 15 points. Isaiah Sampson was close behind with 14. He also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. Avery Rembao scored 12 points for Western State. Kevin Jimenez added 11. Desta had a team-high 12 rebounds for the Mountaineers.

Adams State returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
