WBB | Grizzlies earn first win over Westminster with upset

ALAMOSA, Colo. — The Adams State Grizzlies hosted Westminster College. Westminster came into the game fresh off an overtime victory against CSU Pueblo, meanwhile, the Grizzlies were fresh off a loss to Colorado Mesa. As the tide would turn the Grizzlies earned their first ever win over the Griffins since Westminster joined the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the first time since 2003. The Grizzlies won 71-63.

From tip off the Grizzlies were on fire. In the first quarter senior guard Stephanie Ruiz hit multiple threes. The Grizzlies ended the 1st quarter on top, 16-15. The second quarter started and the Grizzlies defense wouldn't allow the Griffins to score. With the help of Demi Black's multiple steals, the Griffins only scored 9 points as the Grizzlies scored 22 points.

Half time began and the Griffins came out with more energy. The Griffins slowly inched their way back to tie the game. The momentum shifted but the Grizzlies never gave up. The Grizzlies finished the 3rd quarter on top, 51-46.

The fourth quarter started and the Grizzlies had control the entire time. The Griffins could never seem to surpass the Grizzlies as the final score of the game was 71-63. This was the first time the Grizzlies beat Westminster in over ten years.

Demi Black had a career night as she beat every game record she had. She finished with 14 points, six steals, eight assists, and 9 rebounds.

Up next, the Grizzlies host the Western Colorado and Fort Lewis. This Saturday will be the Grizzlies senior night, they will be recognizing four players.
