CANYON, Texas—Thanks in part to a come-from-behind walkoff win over the University of Texas-Permian Basin, the Adams State University Grizzlies were able to salvage a split on Saturday at the West Texas A&M University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies downed the Falcons 7-6 before falling to Texas A&M-Commerce 23-5 in five innings.
GAME 1: Adams State 7, Texas Permian-Basin 6
The Grizzlies surrendered two runs in the top of the first before freshman
Alexandra Cantu nailed her first career home run in the bottom of the third. The Grizzlies then fell into a deep hole and trailed 6-1 until their final at bat.
In the bottom of the seventh, Adams State scored six runs as three errors sandwiched around three hits and four walks allowed the Grizzlies to claim the walkoff. The winning run came when
Sydney Muniz hit a single and throwing error allowed
Jade Garbiso to score the run.
Adams State scored their seven runs on seven hits and two errors as only three runners were stranded on the base paths.
GAME 2: (RV) Texas A&M-Commerce 23, Adams State 5 (5 inn.)
In the second game Adams State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top fo the seventh inning as errors allowed the Grizzlies to score.
The game then went down hill from there for the Grizzlies as Texas A&M scored seven runs in the first, six in the second and ten in the third to score their 23 runs.
Adams State added two runs in the second and another in the third. The Grizzlies earned the five runs on six hits and six defensive errors.

The Grizzlies will close out the five-game weekend on Saturday when they play the host Lady Buffs, who are ranked No. 5, at 2:30 p.m. The Grizzlies will return home next Saturday and Sunday to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action against the Regis Rangers in their home opener. Doubleheaders will commence at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
