GOLDEN, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies lead at the half but an impressive finish by the No. 20 ranked Colorado School of Mines saw the Orediggers get a 83-58 win on Saturday inside Lockridge Arena.
With the loss the Grizzlies fall to 12-14 overall and 10-11 in the conference. The Grizzlies currently sit in ninth place in the standings. Because some teams had games canceled for COVID protocols or weather, the field for the RMAC tournament will be determined by RPI. The Grizzlies are currently in ninth place and basically control their own destiny. The are scheduled to play one more game on Saturday against the Regis Rangers with tip off set for 4:00 p.m.
If the Grizzlies win this game they will make it into the playoffs, if they lose, UCCS will advance. The Grizzlies are looking for a playoff berth for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
The Orediggers started the game on fire as they took a 9-2 lead against the Grizzlies, but the Grizzlies quickly fought back and ended the first quarter on top, 16-14. The Grizzlies continued with the pressure throughout the rest of the first half. The Grizzlies ended the second half on top, 36-32.
The second half started and the Orediggers came out fast and physical. The Orediggers seemed like they couldn't miss a basket as they scored on 29 points in the third quarter alone. The Grizzlies scored only 12 points. The fourth quarter started, and the Grizzlies fought hard to inch their way back into the game but ultimately the Orediggers were victorious. The final score of the game was 83-58.
Kayla Harris paced the way for Grizzlies with 19 points, one off her carrer-high.
