DENVER – With playoff hopes on the line, the Adams State University women's basketball team entered the final game of the 2021-22 season looking for a win, however, the Regis Rangers played the villains on Saturday night as they took a 92-74 win to halt the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies, who were looking to end an 11-year playoff drought, finished just percentage points out of the top eight RMAC Tournament field and finished with a 12-15 overall record and a 10-12 RMAC record.
From tip off the Rangers had the momentum. At the first timeout of the game, the score was 11-2, in favor of the home team. The Grizzlies fought hard, but the game was simply not going their way. The Grizzlies were fighting from behind the whole first half. The Grizzlies would slowly chip away but the Rangers stayed out of reach. The score going into halftime was 42-30, Rangers.
After halftime, the Grizzlies came out and started to get in rhythm. The offense started to hit, and the defense started to get some stops. During the first four minutes of the third quarter, the Grizzlies cut the lead to 49-40. However, the Rangers continued to make shots and at the end of the third quarter the score was 71-49.
The Grizzlies closed the gap just a bit but the lead was too much for the Grizzlies to overcome as the final score of the game was 92-74.

Stephanie Ruiz, who saw her illustrious career come to an end, was the leading scorer with 14 points as she had four three-pointers in the game. Ruiz finishes her career with 95 games under her belt as she hit 191 three-pointers and 44 points shy of breaking 1,000-points.
