SB | Grizzlies fall to Rangers in home-opener

ALAMOSA, Colo.—The brisk sunny day that greeted the Adams State University softball team at the ASU Softball Field on Saturday was nicer to the Grizzlies than the visiting Regis Rangers as the visitors took both games of the twin bill with scores of 9-0 and 16-10.

GAME 1: Regis 9, Adams State 0 (5 inn.)
After both teams failed to get anything going in the first inning, the Rangers erupted for five runs on four hits and two defensive errors to take a lead. They than added a single run in the third and fourth innings before adding two in the fifth.

In the game the Grizzlies were only able to muster three hits, two by Jade Garbiso, but had four errors to help the visitors get the win.

GAME 2: Regis 16, Adams State 10
The second game was much more intense as several close plays had not only the players and coaches hanging on every call but also the fans in attendance.

The Rangers jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Grizzlies finally got some offensive power. They scored a single run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. They added three runs in the bottom of the third inning as Sydney Muniz and Belinda Vargas had doubles.

The game should have been tied but a pivotal and questionable call on a blooper down the left field line that appeared to be fair was ruled foul wiping two runs off the scoreboard.

The Grizzlies continued to fight but they surrendered four runs in the fifth inning and three in the seventh before falling.
