ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Despite surrendering 12 errors on the day the Grizzlies were able to salvage a split on Sunday at the 2022 South Central Regional Crossover Tournament. The Grizzlies won the opening game 3-1 before dropping the backend of the doubleheader to Western New Mexico, 14-7.
Game 1: Adams State 3, Texas-Permian Basin 1
The Grizzlies jumped on the scoreboard first after
Jade Garbiso nailed a line drive to centerfield for a triple before
Belinda Vargas threw a double to right center in the bottom of the first inning.
Adams State continued their stellar defense before
Sydney Muniz nailed a two-run shot to deep left center field in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons countered by scratching a single run across the plate in the top of the fifth thanks to two errors.
Adams State saw
Jasmine Garbiso get her first win of the season as she pitched five innings and surrendered one unearned run on four hits.
Taylor Sandoval earned a save as she pitched the final two innings by allowing one hit and walk and striking out one.
Game 2: Western New Mexico 14, Adams State 7
The second game saw the Mustangs score two runs in the first and three in the second. Of the five runs, only one was earned runs.
The Grizzlies rallied back as they earned a run in the second and then scored four runs on five hits and a Mustang error to tie the game at five in the bottom of the third.
After the Mustangs jumped out to a 6-5 advantage freshman
Andrea Cline nailed a double down the right field line and gave the Grizzlies a 7-6 lead. the lead didn't last long as the Mustangs had a bases-loaded single up the middle and then a three-run shot to make the score 11-7. They finished the inning after seven runs crossed the plate on seven hits.

The Grizzlies will have a weekend off before they return to the diamond. The Grizzlies will travel down to Canyon, Texas for some action in the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic.
