ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State University Grizzlies were unable to pull out a win as the visiting Colorado Mesa University Mavericks were able to extend their win streak to 19 games as they won the first game 13-5 in five innings before falling 10-0 in the second game.
GAME 1: Colorado Mesa 13, Adams State 5 (5 inn.)
The first game started off strong after a scoreless top of the first inning, Adams State's first three batters got on base before sophomore
Breck Smith hit a grand slam to deep left center.
Down 4-0, the Mavericks did not stay down as they capitalized on six hits including three extra base hits to score five runs and take a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the second.
The Grizzlies retaliated as freshman
Emma Wilder electrified the fans with an inside-the-park home run to tie the game at five.
Colorado Mesa was methodical in scoring two runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to earn the run-rule win, 13-5.
The Mavericks tallied 18 hits including two doubles, two triples and a home run while having two stolen bases. Adams State tallied just five hits, three of which were extra base hits.
GAME 2: Colorado Mesa 10, Adams State 0
Jade Garbiso did her best to hold off the Mavericks in the second game as she held the Mavericks to just four runs entering the sixth inning, however, the Mavericks continued their dominance as they closed out the game with three runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh,
Colorado Mesa had 11 hots including three doubles and two triples while Adams State was able to muster just three hits.
Garbiso was dealt the loss despite striking out seven batters.
