COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Although the Adams State University Grizzlies scored first in both of Saturday's games with the UCCS Mountain Lions, the home team was able to come back with a fury to win 11-4 and 10-2 in six innings.
GAME 1: UCCS 11, Adams State 4
The game started quickly for the Grizzlies as
Breck Smith hit a two run home run to score
Sydney Muniz and give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. The Mountain Lions countered with a four-run bottom of the first inning to take a 4-2 lead.
The Grizzlies were able to load the bases in the top of the second inning. They capitalized on it by scoring a run on an error that allowed
Andrea Cline to score the unearned run pulling them back within one, 4-3. UCCS then scored a single run in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Muniz got the run back for the Grizzlies in the fourth inning with a double to center field to score
Jade Garbiso and make the score 5-4. UCCS scored single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to extend their lead to 7-4 before adding four more in the sixth.
The Grizzlies scored their four runs on nine hits and had two defensive errors that allowed the Mountain Lions to score one of their runs unearned.
GAME 2: UCCS 10, Adams State 2 (6 inn.)
The Grizzlies once again scored the first run of the game in the top of the first as Muniz singled to right field to push
Jade Garbiso across the plate. The Mountain Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the inning with
Taylor Sandoval pitching. After the second saw UCCS score a run, Savanah Hoisington tripled home Garbiso to make the score 3-2.
UCCS did not hold back as they added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-2. They then added four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning making the score 8-2 after four. They closed out the game with a run-rule walk off win in the sixth.
