SB | Grizzlies split Friday twin bill with Skyhawks

DURANGO, Colo.—With this weekend's four-game series threatened by winter weather at Aspen Field on the campus of Fort Lewis College, the Adams State University Grizzlies survived a storm of their own as they were able to pull off an eight-inning affair, 10-8 in Game One before falling to FLC, 7-4 in Game Two.

GAME 1: Adams State 10, Fort Lewis 8 (8 inn.)
A see-saw affair opened action as the two teams battled intermittent dust storms across the infield and the moving clouds early and it came down to extra innings before

The game started with Adams State scoring a single run in the top of the first inning as Sydney Muniz pushed starting pitcher Jade Garbiso across the plate on a double. The Skyhawks scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning before the Grizzlies regained the lead in the top of the third. Garbiso nailed a double to center field to score Emma Wilder before Muniz had a sacrifice fly to center field to score Garbiso.

The Skyhawks saw two runs score in the bottom of the fourth inning on a triple to regain a 4-3 advantage.

Adams State didn't stay down for long as Garbiso hit her first home run of the season to tie the game before pitch runner Marissa Manzanares scored on a single giving the Grizzlies a 5-4 lead.

Fort Lewis then scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single to take a 6-5 lead.

A failed pickoff attempt by the catcher allowed the Grizzlies to tie the game in the top of the second inning and despite having two runners on with no outs, they were unable to take the lead.

The Grizzlies were able to break the stalemate in the top of the eighth inning as Muniz nailed a two-run single just over a drawn in second baseman with the bases loaded. Angeline Mitchell nailed a two-run double to extend the lead to 10-6.

The Skyhawks scored two runs in the bottom of the inning but that wasn't enough for them as the Grizzlies earned their first RMAC win of the season.

Garbiso was dealt a no decision as she fired 158 pitches in 7 1/3 inning of work that saw her surrender eight runs, six earned on 17 hits and three walks. She did get eight strikeouts in the game. At the plate, Garbiso was a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI and two walks drawn.

GAME 2: Fort Lewis 7, Adams State 3
The second game saw the Skyhawks jump out to 6-0 lead Adams State clawed back and scored a single tun in the fifth before scoring three more in the sixth, however, like the sky, the Grizzly bats went dark and they lost.
