LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Adams State Track and Field Team is spread across different meets this week as some athletes competed at Mt. SAC Relay, Bryan Clay Invitational, Beach Invitational, and at the Colorado Mesa Open. The Grizzlies are off to a good start this weekend with several national provisional marks, new personal records and a new school record.
MT. SAC Relays
Adams State sophomore
Brianna Robles broke the Adams State University track and field record for the 10,000-meters on Thursday night at the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Robles finished in second place in the Elite Women's 10,000-meter with a time of 32:50.06. The time broke an 18-year-old record set by Hall of Famer Zoila Gomez, who ran a 33:24.59 back in 2004.
Fanziska Althaus also competed in this event as she ran a time 0f 35:32.89.
In the men's 10,000 meters Awet Beraki set a new personal record as he ran a strong race and finished with a time of 28:12.10, just ten seconds off the Grizzly school record.
Joshua Joseph also competed in this event and ran a time of 29:23.23.
Sarah Wills set a new personal best in the women's 3,000-meter steeple as she ran a smart race to run a time of 10:28.16. In the Men's 3,000-meter steeple
Clement Duigou ran a stellar race as he competed against pro athletes and a new personal best and the number one time in Division II in this event as he posted a time of 8:36.25.
Bryan Clay Invitational
On Wednesday night,
Erin Stonebarger represented the Grizzlies well as she gave her best efforts on the track and ran a new personal record in the women's 3,000-meter steeple at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Stonebarger stayed engaged throughout the race as she overcame each jump to solidly set her on pace to run 11:02.50.
On Thursday morning, Elijah De La Cerda went into the men's section of the 5,000-meters and finished fifth overall. De La Cerda stayed close to the pack as they lead him to run a new personal best as he posted a time of 14:30.01.
James Dunne had an impressive performance in this event as he worked his way through the race to run a time of 13:55.48, followed by
Miguel Coca who set a new personal best as he ran a time of 13:5924.
Aron Orar also competed in this event as he ran a time of 14:14.22, followed by
Mitchell Dervin (14:22.73) and
Yonas Haile (14:33.60).
In the women's 800-meter run Ava O'Conner had a goal in mind heading into the race and she accomplished is as she ran a new personal best 2:09.31.
Jessica Simons also competed in this event as she ran a time of 2:09.91, followed by
Nicole Lawrence who ran a time of 2:14.52.
David Cardenas has worked hard in practice and all that hard work was on fully display in the men's 800-meter as he ran a new personal best as he ran a time of 1:48.97.
In the women's 5,000-meter, Amalia Dorian ran a solid race as she ran a time of 17:55.36.
Fiona Hawkins also competed in this event and ran a remarkable race as she ran a personal best as she ran 16:07.55.
Morgan Hykes and Precious Robison also had some outstanding performances in this event as Hykes ran a new personal best as she ran 16:16.98 and Robison ran of 16:34.39.
