DENVER, Colo. – The Adams State University softball team battled the 25 mile per hour winds and the MSU Denver Roadrunners to open their final series on Friday afternoon at the Assembly Athletic Complex. The Roadrunners swept the doubleheader with scores of 8-0 in five innings and 7-2.
GAME 1: MSU Denver 8, Adams State 0 (5 inn.)
The Roadrunners opened the day with eight runs on 12 hits while the Grizzlies were able to get two hits.
The game started rough for the Grizzlies as
Jade Garbiso only fired nine pitches to start the game and unfortunately, surrendered five hits and five earned runs.
Jasmine Garbiso came in and held the Roadrunners to just three runs on seven hits and two walks as she fired 64 pitches to get through four innings.
Sarah Norton held the Grizzlies to just three base runners, two hits and a walk while striking out four Grizzlies in her 66-pitch, five-inning complete game win.
Alyssa Alverez and
Jade Garbiso were the two hitters to get hits while
Breck Smith drew the walk.
Game 2: MSU Denver 7, Adams State 2
The second game was different for the Grizzlies as Alvarez capitalized on a six-pitch walk to
Emma Wilder before she took the sixth pitch of her at bat over the centerfield wall for a two-run blast. The Roadrunners countered with two runs on three hits to tie the game entering the second inning.
The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning on two singles before adding three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Tayler Duncan pitched 4.2 innings giving up the seven runs, only four were earned thanks to three Grizzly defensive errors, on ten hits and two strikeouts.
