GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Just mere weeks after being named to two All-Region teams and becoming one of two first-ever All-RMAC First Team selections, Alfredo Villa is performing well in the professional ranks.

Villa, a 6-0, 220-pound right-handed pitcher, joined the Grand Junction Rockies of the Pioneer Baseball League, a Major League Baseball Partner League, in late June and has since made six appearances.

"I'm super excited for this is a young man who was at a crossroads in life when he came to Adams State," said Grizzly Head Coach Bruce Del Tondo. "In the classroom and on the field, he changed the trajectory of his life while here, I'm super proud of where he is at right now."

Villa, who finished his senior season with the Grizzlies by starting 11 games this season where he tossed 72 2/3 innings and finished with a 3.72 ERA. His strong showing on the mound netted him a Grizzly record six complete games with 72 strikeouts. Villa ranked in the top five in the RMAC in ERA (third), opposing batting average (.237; second), strikeouts (fourth), and wins (tied for second), while leading the conference in innings pitched.

For the Rockies, Villa has pitched 9 2/3 innings where he has struck out 13 batters (12.10 Ks per game), allowing just two runs for a 1.86 ERA. He is also perfect defensively.

Five of six games that Villa has appeared in have been against the Northern Colorado Owlz with his last game played on Wednesday in Colorado Springs against the Rocky Mountain Vibes.

"Athletically he was super dominating, I feel the young man still has a lot of potential," said Del Tondo. "He has an outside chance that he will be drafted later this month."
