BOULDER, Colo—The Grizzlies made an appearance for the first time in 2023 to kick off their indoor track season, as they competed at the Potts Invitational at the CU Indoor Practice Facility.
Day One
On Friday afternoon Papay Glaywulu got the Grizzlies off to a good start as he competed in the men's long jump. Glaywulu broke the facility record that was set in 2019 with a jump of 7.38 meters; Glaywulu now holds the record with a jump of 7.45 meters.
In the men's shot-put Sam Dirkes always gives his best efforts to represent the Grizzlies well. Dirkes competed against some stiff competition and earned himself a third-place finish with a throw of 16.66 meters.
James Hochanadel also competed in this event and finished in eighth place with a throw of 15.02 meters, followed by James Waddles who finished 11
th with a throw of 13.94 meters.
On the women's side
Caelyn Gomez showed great efforts on the women's long jump as she finished 14
th overall. Gomez competed well and jumped 4.63 meters.
Laura Galvan competed in the women's weighted throw and finished 13
th overall. Galvan competed well against some tough competition as she threw 13.05 meters.
Day Two
Jordan Spencer started to build momentum for the Grizzlies on Saturday morning as he showed remarkable efforts in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Spencer finished third overall with a time of 8.01.
Jonah Vigil had a good start to his 2023 season as he competed in the men's 400-meters. Vigil finished first overall with a time of 47.21.
Neveh Jones also competed in this event and finished 10
th with a time of 50.51, followed by
Michael Fonseca who finished 12
th with a time of 50.89, and Chad Jackson who finished 14
th with a time of 51.59.
Jones and Vigil stepped back onto the track compete in the men's 200- meters. Jones finished in 33
rd place with a time of 23.96, followed by Vigil who finished in 38
th place with a time of 27.97.
On the distance side a few Grizzlies competed in the men's 3,000- meters.
Kailer Smith stayed connected to the pack earning him an eight-place finish with a time of 8:41.87. Armando Ortiz also competed in this event and placed 19
th with a time of 8:56.58, followed by Michael Sherman who finished 20
th with a time 0f 8:57.84, and Jack Setser finishing 23
rd with a time 9:14.73.
The Grizzlies showed great efforts to start off the 2023 season and with be back in action next week as they will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Collegiate Invitational.
