DURANGO, Colo. – Offensive rebounds helped the No. 20 Fort Lewis College Skyhawks pull out a 100-80 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC)-win over the Adams State University Grizzlies on Tuesday evening inside Whalen Gymnasium.
With the win the Grizzlies improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC while the Skyhawks fall to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC.
The Grizzlies jumped out to a 5-0 lead that grew as big as seven points, with the last being at 17-10. However, the Skyhawks wouldn't stay grounded as they finished the first half with 11 offensive rebounds to connect on 17-of-37 (45.9 percent) from the field to take a 45-33 lead at the break.
Adams State did not give up as they cut the leas to within two, 74-72, with 12:20 remaining in the game as they had a 5-0 run over 2:30. From that point on however, the Grizzlies were outscored 25-8.
As aa team the Grizzlies shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field and were 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) from the free throw line.
Austin Fadal led the Grizzlies with 19 points while
Destan Williams had 17 and
Jude Tapia had 11.
Adams State will not have much time to waste as they will host CSU Pueblo (Fri., Dec. 8th at 7:30 p.m.), New Mexico Highlands (Sat. Dec. 9th at 7:30 p.m.), and Colorado Mesa (Fri., Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m.).
