WBB | Grizzlies roll to fourth straight win

DURANGO, Colo. – Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) women's basketball action saw the Adams State University Grizzlies use huge second and third-quarter runs as they rumbled to their fourth straight win, this one a 76-56 victory over the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks, inside Whalen Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

With the win the Grizzlies improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC while the Skyhawks fall to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC.

After a back-and-forth affair in the first quarter that saw Adams State take a 15-12 lead, before the Grizzlies pulled away. 10-0 run over a three-minute span in the final four minutes of the first half to take their biggest lead of 12 points, a lead that was cut to eight at the half, 40-29.

The highlight came at the buzzer as a stellar set up for Harmanie Dominguez to nail a three-fourths court shot that was released well before the buzzer sounded. Dominguez was the leading scorer for the Grizzlies with 23 points as she was 8-of-18 from the field, including six three-pointers.
 
Adams State continued to push the pressure as they jumped out to a 24-point lead at 57-33 with 3:34 remaining the third. Even though the Skyhawks attempted to chip away, Adams State maintained the buckets to end the quarter and make the score entering the final quarter, 62-43.

In the final frame, Adams State fought a 5-of-7 showing from the free throw line by Fort Lewis as the Grizzlies won the period, 14-13.

As a team the Grizzlies connected on 26-of-59 (44.1 percent) from the field while hitting ten three pointers.

Adams State will not have much time to waste as they will host CSU Pueblo (Fri., Dec. 8th at 5:30 p.m.), New Mexico Highlands (Sat. Dec. 9th at 5:30 p.m.), and Colorado Mesa (Fri., Dec. 15 at 3:30 p.m.).
