SB | Grizzlies battle but Roadrunners sweep RMAC opener

DENVER, Colo.—The Adams State University softball team opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action on Friday afternoon at the Assembly Sports Complex. The Grizzlies dropped both games despite showing they could battle back.

Game 1: MSU Denver 11, Adams State 9
The Grizzlies jumped to an early lead with Sydney Muniz getting a run-scoring single. The Roadrunners countered with three straight two-out hits, a single, double and triple, to score three runs and get a lead.

After a scoreless second inning the Roadrunners hit a solo shot in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 lead heading to the fourth. The Grizzlies scored two runs in the top of the fourth before allowing the Roadrunners to score three in the bottom.

The Grizzlies did not back down however, as Jade Garbiso and Breck Smith came to the plate as the first two batters and they took pitches over the left center fence to cut the lead back to one, 6-5.

The Grizzlies narrowly survived the bottom of fifth inning, however, as a two-run triple was followed by a two-run home run to make the score 11-5. The Roadrunners then loaded the bases and Jasmine Garbiso, who got the start and was lifted after the triple earlier in the inning, came in and on the second pitch earned an inning-ending double play.

Again the Grizzlies showed fight as Muniz nailed a line-drive double to left center to score Kaia Brandord before Jade Garbiso single to left center to score Muniz and make the score 11-7.

Smith than hit her second home run of the game on a towering shot to left field to cut the lead in half, 11-9 , but that is all the Grizzlies could muster.

Garbiso was tabbed with the loss as she tossed 5.1 innings surrendering all 11 runs on 16 hits.

Game 2: MSU Denver 7, Adams State 1
The Roadrunners struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first, sandwiched around a single Grizzly run in the top of the second inning, the Road runners made the score 4-1 headed to the third inning.

The Grizzlies than surrendered three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Grizzlies did outhit the Roadrunners 6-4 in the game.
