ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State's strong second and third quarters propelled the Grizzlies to a 71-48 win over Westminster College Feb. 28. The game was part of the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament, and the contest was in Plachy Hall.
Ashley Greenwood led Westminster with 14 points. Rae Falatea scored 12 points. The Grizzlies' top scorer was Harmaine Dominguez, who poured in 21 points.
Kiiyani Anitielu scored 18 points,
Angelline Nageak added a dozen.
ASU (21-8) outscored Westminster 21-11 to close out the first half and eventually take command. Neither team shot the ball well in the quarter. But the Grizzlies outrebounded Westminster 10-6, and five of ASU's rebounds were on the offensive end of the floor. ASU made seven baskets in the period, and six of those drew assists.
As if that wasn't enough, ASU put together another 20-point plus effort in the third quarter.
The Grizzlies will move on to take on No. 1 seeded Regis, who defeated CSU Pueblo 72-57. On Friday in the semifinal game.
