TF| Former Adams State standout continues to shatter records

ALAMOSA, Colo.—Adams State University Alumni have found a new reason for celebration as one of their own, Shane Healy, defied expectations and set records on the track. At 55, this Irish distance runner recently achieved a remarkable feat by establishing the master's 3,000m world record, completing the race in just eight minutes and 47 seconds.
 
If that wasn't Impressive enough, at the National Masters Indoor Championships held at the TUS International Arena in Athlone, Ireland he set another world record in the 800m clocking an astounding time of 2.02.46. This shattered the previous record by a significant margin of more than three seconds.
 
In 1990-1993, Shane Healy played a pivotal role in Adams State's ascent to greatness, navigating the transitions between NAIA and NCAA DII levels. His illustrious career saw him clinch five individual national championships, with two of them achieved at the NCAA DII level.
 
Healy's debut on the national stage occurred in 1991, securing his first national title during the indoor season as he anchored the distance medley relay. The subsequent year witnessed Adams State's cross-country team clinch the team title with a perfect score, an achievement in which Healy played a key role. The 1992 indoor season saw him winning two national titles, including the mile with a record-setting time of 4:05:64.
 
As Healy's career reached its pinnacle in 1993, he secured two more national championships, triumphing individually in cross country and conquering the men's 1500-meter run.
 
Beyond the collegiate arena, Healy's pursuits led him to the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, where he competed in the men's 1,500m race and advanced to the semi-finals. After a hiatus, Healy made a stunning comeback in 2023 at 54, setting the M50+ indoor 1,500m world record with an impressive time of 4:01.76.
 
Fast forward to the present day at the age of 55, Healy continues to redefine what's possible. He set the Masters 3,000m world record by finishing in a remarkable time of 8:47.71 at an indoor track competition held in Dublin, smashing the previous M55+ 3,000m world record by a stunning 11 seconds. What's even more impressive is that he managed to secure the sixth spot in his heat, surpassing contestants who were nearly three decades younger than him.
 
As an Adams State University Alumni, Shane Healy stands as a living testament to the enduring spirit of dedication, as he adds yet another world record to his illustrious resume.
