Adams State’s Strong Fight Comes Up Just Short Against Colorado Mesa

Grand Junction, Colo. – In a competitive showdown on October 12, 2024, at Brownson Arena, the Adams State Grizzlies women's volleyball team fell to Colorado Mesa in a four-set battle (21-25, 25-23, 24-26, 21-25). Despite the 3-1 loss, the Grizzlies put up a strong fight against a tough Colorado Mesa squad.

The Grizzlies were led by standout performances from several key players. Cindy Garcia was a force on the court, delivering a team-high 14 kills and playing a crucial role in Adams State's attack. Supporting her offensive efforts was Anna Huggins, who added nine kills of her own, and Nora Conway, who led the team in hitting efficiency, finishing with a solid .333 attack percentage.

Katie Bauer and Hadleigh Richardson were instrumental in Adams State's blocking game, combining for multiple blocks that kept the Grizzlies in the hunt during crucial moments of the match. Adams State's blocking unit tallied 9 team blocks, with Bauer and Richardson making key stops at the net to disrupt Colorado Mesa's offensive rhythm.

The match started with Colorado Mesa taking an early lead, winning the first set 25-21. Adams State managed to claw back in the second set edging out Colorado Mes 25-23. The third set was the most competitive, with both teams trading points back and forth, but the Grizzlies couldn't close it out and dropped the set 26-24. In the final set, Adams State fought valiantly but eventually succumbed 25-21.

With this loss, Adams State drops to 4-13 overall and 1-5 in RMAC play, while Colorado Mesa improved their record to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in conference.

The Grizzlies will be back in action next Friday, when they face Colorado Chrisitan at 6 p.m.
