Grizzlies Fall Short in 2-0 Battle Against MSU Denver

DENVER – The Adams State Grizzlies fought hard but were unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to MSU Denver on Thursday at The Assembly Athletic Complex. Despite several scoring opportunities, the Grizzlies were held scoreless for the sixth time this season.

MSU Denver's Zack Williams proved to be the difference-maker, netting both goals for the Roadrunners. His first came in the 19th minute, capitalizing on a free kick with a well-timed header following assists from Jackson Vander Ven and Luke Bone. Williams added his second goal in the 53rd minute, weaving through Adams State's defense and placing a hard shot into the left corner.

Adams State's goalkeeper JP Fernandez kept his team in the game with an impressive nine saves, but the Grizzlies struggled to convert their chances. Avery Richards led the offensive efforts for the Grizzlies with four shots, two of which were on goal, but MSU Denver's Nick McNeil was solid in net, saving all five shots he faced.

The Grizzlies showed resilience in the second half, upping their offensive pressure and recording seven shots, but McNeil and the MSU Denver defense stood firm. A late yellow card for Adams State's Tyler Zimbounellis in the 74th minute reflected the intensity of the match, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback.

With the loss, Adams State drops to 2-8-2 on the season and 0-5-1 in conference play. The Grizzlies will look to rebound in their next match on the road Sunday against Colorado School of Mines.
