Adams State Falls to High-Powered Mines Offense in 7-1 Defeat

Golden, Colo. — Adams State faced a challenging road test against Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, suffering a 7-1 loss at Stermole Stadium as the Orediggers brought relentless offensive firepower. The Grizzlies' lone goal came late in the second half from forward Kaidin Reese, but Mines' efficient attack proved too strong for Adams State to contain.

The Orediggers quickly set the tone, scoring just two minutes in when Jimmy Koufidakis found the net off an assist from Caelin David. After building a 2-0 lead in the first half, Mines intensified their pressure in the second, netting five goals in quick succession. Raul Gerhardus was particularly effective, scoring twice, while teammates Ayman Bushara, Quin Collins, and Smith Russell each added goals to secure a decisive result for the home team.

Adams State's offense managed 11 shots throughout the game but struggled to break through Mines' solid backline. Reese's goal in the 73rd minute was a highlight for the grizzlies scoring on a solo effort. Despite the offensive struggles, Adams State goalkeeper JP Fernandez stood out with a commendable eight saves amid the barrage of 24 shots from the Orediggers.

In addition to strong goalkeeping from Mines' Peter Saunders and Caden Allaire, the Orediggers' defense effectively neutralized Adams State's attempts, making it challenging for the Grizzlies to gain momentum. The physicality of the match was evident, with both teams totaling 13 fouls apiece, and several yellow cards were issued.

With the loss, Adams State's record falls to 2-9-2 overall and 0-6-1 in the RMAC. The Grizzlies aim to learn from this setback as they prepare for the final stretch of conference play, starting with Colorado Mesa on Friday at home.
