Grizzlies Outpaced by Mavericks' Firepower in Home Match

Alamosa, Colo. – In a tough match on their home field at ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field in Alamosa, Adams State University (ASU) suffered a 5-0 loss to Colorado Mesa University on Friday. ASU couldn't find a way past CMU's solid defense and conceded multiple goals across both halves.

CMU got on the scoreboard in the 31st minute, when Daniel Paulsson found the back of the net off a well-timed assist from Matheus Lazzuri, putting the visitors up 1-0. Just before the halftime whistle, Paulsson struck again in the 45th minute, doubling CMU's lead with an assist from Marc Bonafe. ASU entered halftime down 2-0 and needed a second-half comeback to turn the tide.

As the second half began, CMU continued their offensive push, extending their lead with a goal from Kensho Negi in the 60th minute. The Grizzlies mounted several promising attempts to respond, but CMU's goalkeeper Diego Chavez was steadfast, making four key saves. The Mavericks added to their lead again in the 73rd minute, with Manuel Ponce Casas scoring off an assist from Dylan Hobson, and capped off their performance in the 89th minute when Diogo Silva netted CMU's fifth and final goal with help from Connor Chilson.

Despite their uphill battle, the Grizzlies kept pressing forward, finishing with nine total shots, including four on target. ASU's defense worked hard to contain CMU, with goalkeeper Lars Ostermann managing three saves against 16 shots from CMU's side. ASU's struggles were compounded by two yellow cards issued during the game, as both Mario Alejo and Matteo Branger were penalized.

The Grizzlies will look to bounce back on Sunday, when they take on Westminster at home at 11 a.m. for Senior Day.
