HAYS, Kan. — Adams State fell to Fort Hays State, 77-52, in a non-conference women's basketball game Friday night at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Despite the loss, the Grizzlies showed flashes of promise in a game defined by turnovers and rebounding struggles.
Fort Hays State (3-0) came out strong in the first quarter, outscoring Adams State 22-10. The Tigers' balanced offensive attack set the tone early, led by Katie Wagner DeGarmo, who finished with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Grizzlies' Kiiyani Anitielu kept her team competitive, scoring 18 points and grabbing four rebounds.
Adams State (2-3) trimmed the deficit in the second quarter but went into halftime trailing 40-26. The third quarter proved decisive as Fort Hays State extended its lead behind Olivia Hollenbeck's consistent free-throw shooting and Kate Dilsaver's efficient scoring.
The Grizzlies struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting 37% from the field and committing 20 turnovers. They also faced challenges on the boards, being out-rebounded 43-19.
Fort Hays State shot 50% from the field and 54% from three-point range, with Bailey Wilborn knocking down three triples.
Adams State faces UN-Kearney in a neutral site game tomorrow as it looks to bounce back and refine its play.
