LAWTON, Okla. – The Adams State men's basketball team continued its strong start to the season with a narrow 65-63 victory against Cameron University on Friday night. The win improved Adams State's record to 3-0, while Cameron fell to 0-3.
In a closely contested game, Adams State held a one-point lead at halftime, 34-33. They maintained their edge throughout the second half, thanks to solid contributions from their bench, which scored 31 points overall. The team also dominated in the paint, scoring 46 points compared to Cameron's 34.
Wyatt Helming led Adams State with 12 points on efficient shooting (6-for-9 from the field). Luke Williams matched Helming with 12 points and added seven rebounds, while Ta'Veus Randle contributed 11 points, including a key layup in the final minutes to keep Adams State ahead. John Harge also played a pivotal role with 10 points and six rebounds.
Cameron made a strong push late in the game; however, their efforts fell short as they struggled with turnovers, giving away the ball 17 times, which the Grizzlies converted into 19 points.
The game featured several lead changes and was tied six times. Ultimately, the Grizzlies' ability to capitalize on fast breaks (18 points) and their 11 steals were enough to hold off the Aggies. Adams State will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, tonight to face Midwestern State at 7 p.m. MT.
