Adams State Falls Short in Hard-Fought Battle Against Eastern New Mexico

Portales, N.M. — The Adams State women's basketball team came up just short on the road Tuesday night, losing 65-62 to Eastern New Mexico at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena. Despite a valiant fourth-quarter rally, the Grizzlies were unable to overcome a slow start, dropping to 3-3 on the season.

Adams State trailed 19-12 after the first quarter and struggled offensively in the second, scoring just seven points to head into halftime down 28-19. The Grizzlies found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring the Greyhounds 43-37 over the final two quarters. A late surge in the fourth quarter, where Adams State scored 23 points, brought the game within reach, but Eastern New Mexico held on with free throws and points off turnovers.

Taejhuan Hill led the Grizzlies with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, adding eight rebounds. Kiiyani Anitielu contributed 13 points and five rebounds, while Ri'Ahana Davis chipped in 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Angelline Nageak made her presence felt with six points, five rebounds, and four steals, providing key defensive plays throughout the game.

The Grizzlies forced 31 turnovers, converting them into 25 points, and scored 36 points in the paint.

The Grizzlies will remain on the road for their next match-up against Angelo State on Thursday, where they hope to build on their strong finish. Despite the loss, the Grizzlies determination and fight in the closing minutes highlighted their potential to challenge any opponent in the RMAC this season.
