Alva, Okla. – Despite a valiant second-half rally, Adams State fell short against Northwestern Oklahoma State, dropping a hard-fought 84-75 decision Saturday afternoon at Percefull Fieldhouse.
Luke Williams spearheaded the Grizzlies' (3-3) offense with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Cameron Kimble chipped in 15 points, while Jaylen Alexander added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. However, Northwestern Oklahoma's Max Alexander proved to be the difference-maker, scoring 28 points on 9-of-19 shooting and sinking key free throws late.
Adams State trailed 42-31 at halftime but narrowed the deficit behind a tenacious defense that forced 15 turnovers, leading to 26 points. Williams' scoring flurry and Alexander's inside presence kept the game within reach. Despite the effort, the Rangers (3-2) held firm.
The Grizzlies out-rebounded their opponent 43-37, but turnovers and struggles shooting beyond the arc (4-of-27) hampered their comeback bid. Northwestern Oklahoma converted 10 three-pointers, maintaining a lead they never relinquished.
Adams State will move to bounce back next week as they return home to face Northern New Mexico on Wednesday for Valley Day where local students 18 & under get in free.
