Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State University cruised to a straight-set victory against Western Colorado on Thursday, sweeping the Mountaineers 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-19) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Grizzlies (10-15, 5-7 RMAC) were dominant from the start, with Cindy Garcia leading the charge. Garcia posted a match-high 13 kills while hitting an impressive .321. Anna Huggins contributed significantly with 8 kills, 13 digs, and 3 blocks, playing a crucial role both offensively and defensively.
Adams State set the tone early, battling back from an initial deficit in the first set to secure a 25-20 win. The Grizzlies then showcased their defensive prowess in the second set, holding Western Colorado to just 10 points — their lowest output of the match. Katie Bauer and Hadleigh Richardson anchored the front line with effective blocking, combining for 6 blocks.
The third set saw a resilient Western Colorado (11-13, 7-5 RMAC) attempt to rally, but Adams State maintained control. The Grizzlies closed out the match with a 25-19 victory, capitalizing on consistent serving and efficient attacking to secure the sweep.
Adams State's defense was a standout, recording 11 total blocks compared to just 3 from the Mountaineers. The Grizzlies also had 52 digs, with Huggins and libero Sierra Leone Sanchez leading the effort in the backcourt.
"Our offense really clicked today, it was great to see our middle get to hit at a high clip on some volume for a three set match. Blocking wise we felt that was our best performance of the season in terms of getting good touches that allowed us opportunities in transition to cash out," said Head Coach Garcia Ramser.
The win marks a crucial step for the Grizzlies as they aim to strengthen their position in the RMAC standings. Adams State will look to carry this momentum into next week's matches as they take on Regis and UCCS on Friday and Saturday.
