Spearfish, S.D. – In a rainy showdown at Lyle Hare Stadium, Adams State lost to Black Hills State, with a final score of 45-3. Despite the persistent efforts of the Adams State defense, Black Hills State maintained control throughout the game, leveraging an effective combination of rushing and passing plays.
Adams State (0-10) managed to put points on the board in the third quarter with a 26-yard field goal by kicker Brysen Gardner. This score capped a 16-play, 66-yard drive, which was one of the team's longest possessions of the day. However, Black Hills State responded swiftly, adding 21 more points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Offensively, Adams State struggled to break through Black Hills State's defense, tallying only 142 total yards on 71 plays. Quarterback Rudy Gonzales, a true freshman, completed 17 of 40 passes for 111 yards during his first game of the year, though he faced pressure all game with two interceptions and two sacks. Wide receiver Damon Bell was a standout for Adams State, hauling in seven receptions for 63 yards, including a 35-yard catch.
