The Adams State Grizzlies showcased their dominance Thursday night with a decisive 79-60 victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks in an RMAC matchup at Plachy Hall. With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Adams State jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Skyhawks 26-15 in the first quarter. Capitalizing on a fast-paced offense and smothering defense, the Grizzlies forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 29 points. By halftime, Adams State had built a commanding 46-28 lead.
Angelline Nageak led the Grizzlies with 22 points, including two 3-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. She also tallied five assists and six steals. The six steals tonight pushes her to 304 career steals, and breaks the 300 barrier. Nageak sits #14 in DII for steals before her performance tonight. Taejhuan Hill contributed 15 points and eight rebounds, shooting 5-for-10 from the field, while Brooke Rodgers added eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Fort Lewis struggled to match the Grizzlies' energy, shooting just 34.4% from the field. However, the Skyhawks surged in the third quarter, scoring 25 points to the Grizzlies' 12 to cut into the deficit.
Adams State responded with a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring Fort Lewis 21-7 to seal the victory. The Grizzlies shot 52.6% from the field overall and excelled in transition with 19 fast-break points. They also controlled the interior, scoring 40 points in the paint, and added 11 steals and five blocks to their totals.
Adams State will hit the road Saturday for a conference matchup at New Mexico Highlands, with tipoff set for 1 p.m. MT.
