Alamosa, Colo -- The Adams State Grizzlies suffered a tough 88-71 loss to Fort Lewis on Thursday night at the Den at Plachy Hall in a RMAC showdown.
The Grizzlies (4-6, 0-3 RMAC) fought hardin the first half, trailing by just four points (44-40) at halftime. Despite a strong 22-point performance from
Jaylen Alexander, who was perfect from the field (7-for-7) and added six rebounds, Adams State couldn't overcome the balanced attack of Fort Lewis (7-5, 2-2 RMAC).
Fort Lewis capitalized on Adams State's turnovers, scoring 30 points off 20 Grizzlies' giveaways.The Grizzlies struggled to find offensive consistency in the second half, shooting just 34.8% from the field. While Alexander's effort was bolstered by Ta'Vaeus Randle's 14 points and seven boards, Adams State's depth faltered, contributing only 17 points off the bench.
Fort Lewis maintained its advantage by hitting key three-pointers (12-for-30) and controlling the boards with a 34-25 rebounding edge. The Skyhawks were led by Biko Johnson and Chuol Deng, each tallying 15 points. Deng also recorded eight rebounds before fouling out in the second half.
The Grizzlies will look to bounce back on the road Saturday, as they travel to New Mexico Highlands for a 3 p.m. tippoff.
