Ta'Veus Randle's 27 points, Adams State powered past New Mexico Highlands, 96-83, Saturday night in a RMAC matchup.
The Grizzlies (5-6, 1-3 RMAC) used a dominant first half, scoring 48 points, and held off Highlands (6-5, 0-4 RMAC) with balanced scoring and a powerful defense.
Randle shot 8-for-13 from the field, inclduing 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, and added six free throws before fouling out late.
Jaylen Alexander contributed 21 points, shooting an efficient 10-of-14, while
Jude Tapia added 15 points and four assists.
Adams State outscored Highlands 48-40 in the paint and capitalized on 21 points off turnovers. The Grizzlies played well in the transition game, tallying 25 fastbreak points.
John Harge chipped 14 points, hitting two 3-pointers and grabbing five rebounds. Luke Wiliams added seven points and five boards.
Highlands' Kyrie Thomas paced the Cowboys with 22 points, while Kenard Richardson added 18 points and six rebounds. Despite trailing 48-40 at halftime, Highlands stayed close but couldn't overcome Adams State's high-percentage shooting down the stretch.
The Grizzlies will be back in action Friday, at 3 p.m. facing off against Northwest Indian College at home.
