Alamosa, CO — Despite a hot start and a double-digit halftime lead, the Adams State Grizzlies couldn't hold off the surging MSU Denver Roadrunners, falling 90-79 on Saturday night at Plachy Hall in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Adams State (4-5, 0-2 RMAC) came out firing, hitting nine three-pointers in the first half. Ta'Veus Randle led the Grizzlies with 20 points, including five shots from beyond the arc, while Jude Tapia chipped in 17 points. Their efforts helped Adams State build a 47-38 advantage at the break.
However, MSU Denver (7-1, 2-0 RMAC) dominated the second half, outscoring the Grizzlies 52-32 with a relentless attack in the paint and a smothering defense that forced key turnovers. Caleb McGill led the Roadrunners with a stellar 23-point, 11-rebound performance, while Logan Threatt added 18 points to fuel the comeback.
The Grizzlies struggled to maintain their offensive rhythm in the second half and couldn't match the Roadrunners' energy down the stretch.
Adams State will look to regroup as they continue RMAC play next week.
