ALAMOSA, Colo—Adams State made waves at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational over the weekend by shattering records at both the program level and NCAA Division II level. While part of the Adams State track and field team competed in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, others participated in the Don Kirby Invitational.
Boston Day One
BOSTON, Mass. – In an extraordinary display,
Gracie Hyde broke the NCAA Division II Record in the 3000m run. Hyde's exceptional performance clocked in at an impressive 8:58.33, surpassing the previous record held by
Stephanie Cotter.
Morgan Hykes also competed in this event and secured the 36th position. Hykes put on a strong performance, finishing with a time of 9:17.62. Tristian Spence also participated and secured the 44th position with a time of 9:20.80.
Maggie McCleskey secured the 54th position with a time of 9:24.97.
Emily Schoellkopf also joined the competition securing the 74th position with a time of 9:31.59.
Elena Carey rounded out the competitors, securing the 86th position with a time of 9:35.17.
In the context of the 800-meter run,
Jessica Simon attained the 58th position with a recorded time of 2:10.04 seconds, whereas
Lieke Hoogsteen concluded the event in the 62nd position, registering a time of 2:10.11.
Victoria Amiadamen demonstrated her prowess on the track in the 400-meter dash event; she completed the race in 56.87 seconds, securing the 40th position amidst a field of competitive athletes.
Vienna Lahner's performance in the 1 Mile Run was nothing short of remarkable, as she surged through the race with determination, ultimately securing the 68th spot with a noteworthy time of 4:46.96.
Brianna Robles,
Precious Robinson, and
Amalia Dorion showcased their endurance and skill in the 5000 meters event. Robles secured the 16th position and crossed the finish line with a time of 15:53.49.
Precious Robinson also demonstrated her prowess in this event, participating in both the unseeded and seeded races. In the unseeded event, she secured the 53rd position with a time of 16:27.83.
Amalia Dorion rounded out the trio of athletes and secured the 97th position with a time of 17:26.97.
Boston Day Two
BOSTON, Mass. – Adams State University's team made history by shattering the NCAA Division II record in the 4000 Distance Medley Relay, clocking an impressive time of 11:08.94. This outstanding feat was achieved by
Lieke Hoogsteen,
Victoria Amiadamen,
Jessica Simon, and
Gracie Hyde, showcasing exceptional teamwork and skill.
Not to be outdone, Adams State's B team also delivered an outstanding performance, finishing at 11:16.30 with runners
Elena Carey,
Maggie McCleskey,
Vienna Lahner, and
Morgan Hykes.
Miguel Coca of Adams State broke the Division II National Record, surpassing Christian Noble's previous record of 7:50.98 set on February 27, 2022, with a new time of 7:44.90.
Elijah De La Cerda ran the unseeded 5000-meter race in an impressive time of 14:41.04.
Andrew O'Keefe demonstrated commendable performance with a time of 1:53.56 in the 800-meter run.
James Dunne showcased his formidable talent in the 1 Mile Run event, securing 23rd place with a remarkable time of 3:57.26, just narrowly missing breaking the Division II record.
David Cardenas also competed in this event, finishing in 4:01.58 and securing the 61st spot.
In the men's 5,000 meters,
Dayton Brown secured the 51st position with a remarkable time of 13:50.74.
Yonas Haile also competed in this event, finishing in 14:36.00 and securing the 122nd position.
UNM Don Kirby Invite
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In the women's 400m event,
Alese Sartain led the charge, finishing 21st with a time of 57.11 seconds, followed closely by
Jada Miller in 39th place with a time of 58.29 seconds.
Avery Palmgren also put in a solid effort, securing 53rd place with a time of 59.60 seconds.
Micah Swann demonstrated his prowess in the men's 3000m, clinching the 11th position with a commendable time of 8:44.80. Joaquin Herrera also put on a respectable performance, finishing 23rd with a time of 9:14.14.
The women's 3000m event saw
Erin Stonebarger claiming the 8th position with a time of 10:21.66, closely followed by
Haley Harkrider in 11th place with a time of 10:40.67.
Isila Apkup showcased her speed in the women's 200m, securing the 26th position with a time of 24.70 seconds.
John Hochanadel made his mark in the men's Weight Throw, securing the 24th position with a throw of 16.40m.
In the Women's 60m Hurdles Invitational, Alena Chaney delivered a commendable performance, securing the 40th position with a time of 8.89 seconds.
Isila Akpup demonstrated her speed in the Women's 60m Dash Invitational, finishing 31st in the competitive field with a time of 7.74 seconds.
Erin Stonebarger showcased her endurance in the Women's 1 Mile, finishing in 15th place with a time of 5:11.37, while
Haley Harkrider also displayed a solid performance, securing the 21st position with a time of 5:14.68.
In the Women's 400m Invitational,
Jada Miller exhibited her speed and strength, finishing 26th with a time of 56.83 seconds.
Nicole Lawrence displayed her skills in the Women's 800m, securing the 15th position with a time of 2:15.16.
In the Men's 1 Mile,
Carmelo Corral put on a strong showing, claiming the 23rd spot with a time of 4:27.57, while
Mikah Paiz followed closely, securing 34th place with a time of 4:33.35.
The team comprising Hatcher, Jones, Smith, and Vigil delivered an impressive performance, securing the 10th position in the Men's 4x400m Relay with a time of 3:15.33.
Following their performance, the team will be gearing up for their upcoming competitions. Next week, they are scheduled to compete at the Western Colorado Open on February 16th at the Mountaineer Field House in Gunnison, Colorado. Following that, they'll prepare for the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, taking place on February 23rd and 24th at the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse in Spearfish, South Dakota.
