ALAMOSA, Colo. – Fans were kept on the edge of their seats until the final tenth of a second ticked off the clock on Friday night inside Plachy Hall. In anfavorable turn of events, the visiting South Dakota Mines Hardrockers executed a flawless inbound play with 1.1 seconds remaining to capture an 83-81 victory in overtime in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
Adams State was buoyed by four players who scored double figures.
Destan Williams, who was 10-of-18 from the field for 23 points while hitting 3-of-9 from beyond the arch, led the charge.
Kolby Walker was 4-of-10 from the field for 16 points while
Austin Fadal scored 12 and
Luke Williams tallied 11.
The Grizzlies were a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
In a game that saw 21 lead changes and 14 ties, neither team got more than six points up with the Hardrockers taking a 68-62 lead with 2:01 left in regulation before Adams State stromed back and tied ther game at 71 to force overtime.
Int eh overtime period Adams State was able to get a 77-74 lead before the Keagan Smith scored five points in a 7-3 run to tie give the Hardrockers an 81-79 advantage. Adams State tied the game up at 81 with 32 seconds remaining before the inbounds play to seal the game.
Adams State will return to action on Saturday when they host Black Hills State.
