SPEARFISH, S.D.— On the second day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Track & Field Championships, athletes showcased remarkable performances across various events in both the women's and men's categories. Additionally, some grizzlies made notable marks at the 2024 Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite in Seattle.
RMAC Day Two
In the 60 meters Hurdles, Alena Chaney demonstrated her prowess, securing 3rd place with a swift time of 8.77 seconds, showcasing her agility and technique over the hurdles.
Isila Akpup showcased her speed in the 60 meter dash, finishing 2nd with an impressive time of 7.52 seconds, demonstrating her explosive power in the short sprint.
Jada Miller exhibited strong performance in the 200 meter dash, clinching 3rd place with a time of 25.01 seconds, closely followed by
Isila Apkup, who finished 4th in 25.07 seconds, both displaying remarkable speed and determination.
In the 800 meters,:
Lieke Hoogsteen showed her endurance, securing 3rd place with a time of 2:10.64, while
Nicole Lawrence displayed resilience, finishing 6th with a time of 2: 13, both exhibiting remarkable strength in this event.
In the mile,
Amalia Dorion finished 5th with a time of 5:01.18. Haley Karkrider (5:13.64) and
Erin Stonebarger(5:17.62) showcased their grit, finishing 13th and 15th, respectively.
Erin Stonebarger displayed her endurance once again, finishing 11th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10 minutes and 32.25 seconds, while Haley Karkrider finished 16th with a time of 10 minutes and 46.57 seconds, both showing remarkable stamina in the longer distance race.
In the Triple Jump Alena Chaney showcased her jumping ability, finishing 11th with a jump of 10.85 meters.
In the men's 400 meter Dash,
Elijah Hatcher delivered a solid performance, securing 6th place with a time of 50.67 seconds.
Andrew O'Keefe impressed with a 2nd place finish in the men's 800 meters clocking in at 1: 53.30, while
Jake Beckwith showed resilience, finishing 15th with a time of 1:58.6.
With a final kick
David Cardenas showcased his dominance in the men's mile, claiming 1st place with an impressive time of 4:10.47. Nathan Scherbarth finished 13th with a time of 4:20.21, followed by David Milan in 15th place with a time of 4:22.44.
Zak Beckwith secured 16th place, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:25.54, while
Carmelo Corral finished 17th, clocking in at 4:26.52.
Juan Rosales exhibited endurance in the men's 3,000 meters,, finishing 14th with a time of 8:47.94 seconds.
In the men's Shot Put
James Hochanadel displayed strength and technique, finishing 4th with a throw of 15.92 meters, while
Donovan Capes showcased his talent with a throw of 12.97 meters, finishing 18th in the event.
Overall, the second day of the RMAC Track & Field Championships was filled with outstanding performances, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of the athletes competing in various events.
2024 Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite
Kidus Begashaw participated in a competitive 5000-meter race. During this event, he showcased his skills ultimately achieving an impressive time of 14:28.45 finishing third overall.
In the fiercely contested 3000-meter run,
James Dunne, ultimately crossed the finish line with a commendable time of 8:03.69. Despite the intense competition, Dunne's performance secured him the 13th position in the event.
Miguel Coca displayed remarkable prowess in the 1 Mile Run, clocking an impressive time of 3:56.38 and secured the win.
Brianna Robles ultimately achieved a noteworthy time of 9:08.74 in the 3,000 meters and secured her a respectable sixth place in the event.
Gracie Hyde, delivered an exceptional performance in the 1 Mile Run event, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 4:30.90 and securing a first place finish.
Up next, the Grizzlies are preparing to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas. The event will take place at the Robert W. Plaster Center on March 8th and 9th.
