WBB | Adams State Women's Basketball Escapes Late Surge to Maintain pace in RMAC Standings

ALAMOSA, Colo. – In a thrilling match-up against the Black Hills Yellow Jackets, the Adams State University women's basketball team held on for a 67-64 victory, maintaining their position at the top of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

Adams State finds itself in a rare position, tied for first place as they head into the final weekend of the regular season. The competition for the top spot is fierce, with Colorado Mesa, Regis, Adams State, and UC-Colorado Springs all boasting impressive 16-4 records in the RMAC. Colorado Mesa leads the pack with an  overall record of 22-5, while Regis follows closely with a 21-5 record, and Adams State at 21-7, with UCCS not far behind at 19-7.

Looking ahead, Colorado Mesa is set to face off against Westminster and Western Colorado, teams with a combined conference record of 5-35. However, despite their standings, Colorado Mesa had to battle through two overtime periods to secure a win against Western Colorado earlier in the season.

Regis and UCCS, have critical home games this weekend against New Mexico Highlands and CSU Pueblo while the Grizzlies will be at Colorado School of Mines and Metro  State,

The game started with Adams State trailing by eight points in the first quarter, but they staged a remarkable comeback in the second quarter, showcasing a defensive masterclass again holding the opponet to just eight and securing a 35-29 halftime lead with eight first-half assists.

Although Black Hills State surged in the second half, narrowing the gap to just one point at 49-48, Adams State held firm, securing the win with a 7-of-18 shooting performance in the final quarter.

Meanwhile, Harmanie Dominguez continues her climb in the record books, tallying 21 points in Saturday's game and bringing her total to 491 points for the season which is now third all -time. She aims to join the ranks of Grizzly history as only the second player to surpass 500 points in a season, chasing the legendary Vera Jo Bustos, who achieved the feat twice with 502 points in 2008-2009 and  577 points in 2010-11.
